In this tutorial iam going to explain how to make your USB drive in read only format. You may think that what is the need of making USB drive read only, There are so many advantages of making your USB drive read only ...
i. No one can steal data or copy data from your computer.
ii. You can make your USB device or Pen Drive as permanent storage device.The information in the Pen drive cannot be changed or modified.
iii. Don't want the files in the USB device get infected by the virus, whenever you plug into another computer or laptop.
Making your USB drive read only can be done in two ways.. 1. By manually 2. By using software..
2. Now navigate to "HKey_Local_Machine>System>CurrentControlSet>Control" in the registry editor.

How to make your USB drive read only by manually
1. Click on Start Menu> Run> and type "regedit"(without double quotes ) in the Run box, it will open registry editor window.

3. Now create new key here with the name "StorageDevicePolices", if it already exists then no need to create...
4. Right click in the window and select new>key and rename it is as "StorageDevicePolices"...
5. Now create a new DWORD value in the StorageDevicePolices and name it as "USBRead" and set the value as "1".
6.From now the USB drives in your computer are in read only mode, if you want to change the mode of USB drive simply change the value from 1 to 0.
