Why Pen Drive/Hard Disk/Memory Card Shows less storage capacity than advertised
The reason behind Pen drive/Hard Disk/ Memory card showing less storage capacity than advertised is the maths calculation performed by manufacturer companies. Windows operating system treat 1 MB as 1024 bytes and 1 GB as 1024 MB where as Manufacturer companies treat 1 MB as 1000 Bytes and 1 GB as 1000 MB... Look at the calculations below ....
Operating System Calculations Manufacturer Calculations
1 KB = 1024 Bytes 1 KB = 1000 Bytes
1 MB = 1024 KB 1 MB = 1000 KB
1 GB = 1024 MB 1 GB = 1000 MB
1 TB = 1024 GB 1 TB = 1000 GB
The other reasons may be...
> Each and Every operating system may have different calculations such as windows shows different capacity compared to Linux, MAC depending upon the formats and algorithms used ..
> Some of the memory in the Pen Drive/Hard Disk/Memory Card reserved for hidden system files for better performance.
